Anger to Advocacy

In November 2023, Lexi was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) with an EGFR Exon 20 insertion mutation. As a young, never-smoker mom of 3, Lexi was shocked to the core. Since then Lexi has endured surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, clinical trials, and countless scans & blood draws. She is still receiving treatment as there is (presently) no cure for Stage IV NSCLC.

Lexi's anger morphed into advocacy, and she was determined to turn her personal experience into a force for positive change.

Lexi has become a patient advocate, working with various pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations to ensure the patient's voice and experience is heard and to identify opportunities for meaningful change.

Lively Lungs was formed to fund and provide additional support to organizations that are dedicated to improving lung cancer outcomes. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Lung Cancer Facts

About 20% of current lung cancer diagnoses occur in individuals with no smoking history.

Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women in the U.S., taking as many lives as breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers combined.

Individuals under the age of 50 do not qualify for lung cancer screening and, as a result, are often diagnosed at a late stage.

The prevalence of EGFR Exon 20 insertion mutations is estimated to only be 2-3% of all NSCLC cases.

NSCLC in individuals with no smoking history is estimated to be the 5th most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

Never smokers who develop lung cancer are nearly twice as likely to be women than men.
